2024 LEADING ATHLETE SCHOLARSHIP #4
ASPECT Trust announce the fourth and final recipient of our 2024 Leading Athlete Scholarships – ZAC CAMPBELL (Archery).
Regularly shooting up to 180 arrows per training session, Zac exemplifies the hard work and dedication needed to succeed at your chosen sport. In addition to training locally and encouraging new athletes into his sport, Zac’s coach resides in Christchurch – meaning many trips north each season.
Zac has racked up an impressive array of achievements in recent years including 3 Golds, a Silver, and a Bronze at the January 2023 NZ National Outdoor Champs. This resulted in Zac being selected in the NZ team to compete at both the Trans-Tasman Challenge series and the World Archery Oceania Championships both held in Adelaide in April 2023.
With a Gold, Silver and Bronze, Zac helped the NZ team retain the Trans-Tasman Trophy and then capped off this performance by securing 2 x Golds across the Individual Matchplay and Two person Mixed Matchplay at the Oceania Champs.
From a foundation of the NZ Indoor and Outdoor Champs across this and future years, Zac has a clear and focussed 5 year training plan aimed at next gaining selection for the 2025 Trans-Tasman Challenge and hopefully after a few world comps across 2025 & 2026 – culminating in the big goal of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
“I am passionate about my sport and want to promote it though my success so that other youth can believe that they too can succeed at a minority sport. I have achieved what many have told me would be impossible – to wear the NZ fern and represent not only your country but your town, your school, and your family”
“I now want to push that belief in myself, with the help of my coach and family aiming for the worlds and the Olympics and sharing that success with our local youth so they have a role model to look up to and so they can believe that they themselves can achieve anything they set their goals on”.
Great stuff Zac – you certainly have your targets well in sight. We’re thrilled to have you as part of the Aspect family. All the best.
